Volunteer Facilitator Training
In working with children, teens, and the adult support groups, Common Ground requires a 24 hour training program (with course fee), which takes place on our site. This is usually done over two weekends. Volunteers are asked to make a one year commitment to working with children. Our support groups take place every other week and involve a 3 1/2 hour commitment per group.

The training we provide at Common Ground is designed to teach the skills needed to provide support and care for persons who are grieving the death of someone. This training is an intense experience due to the nature of the subject matter and incorporates many opportunities for self awareness as it relates to one’s own personal experience with grief and loss.

Upon completion of the training, participants are interviewed. Those that are accepted as volunteers at Common Ground will be placed in a group with other volunteer facilitators as well as a staff member coordinator from Common Ground. Group facilitators provide a safe environment for and give mutual encouragement and support to children, teens, and adults grieving a death.

Groups do not meet during the year-end holidays, during spring break, or July through August.

The full training fee is $95.00 per person. A non-refundable deposit of $35.00 is to accompany your application. The balance of $60.00 is due on the first day of training. After the training, if you are selected to be a facilitator, you will be required to submit to a background check.
